Teeth Whitening Strips
Many people who want to whiten their teeth choose
teeth whitening strips to do so. One advantage of these strips is that they are relatively
inexpensive.
However, their efficacy is an issue. Potential users
might question whether going to a dentist for whitening is a superior option. If you decide to go with
whitening strips, they are readily available at a variety of stores. Your local pharmacy or grocery store
probably sells them, as do many discount and department stores.
These strips are popular partly because they are very
easy to use in one's own home. Each box contains a set of strips. The strips are placed atop one's teeth, but
only the teeth that are easily visible to other people.
Teeth that are positioned farther back in the mouth do
not get treated, since no one will be looking at them. The strips are left in the mouth for the length of
time specified in the package's directions.
This length may range from minutes to hours, even as
long as overnight. A tooth whitening package contains multiple strips, which should be used over a period of
time. One application alone will not help.
Following the directions precisely will have the best
possible results. It will probably take a minimum of a couple of weeks for a difference in tooth appearance
to be visible.
It might even be necessary to go through a couple of
packages of strips before any whitening is noticeable. These strips can whiten teeth by several shades, which
is not as good as the potential results from whitening done at a dentist's office, but is certainly better
than doing nothing.
Whitening done by a dentist will also last longer than
whitening achieved by using strips. Professional whitening is relatively expensive, but offers superior
results than whitening strips do. The cost of dental whitening can range from a few hundred dollars to a
thousand or higher.
The typical method a dentist will use is laser
whitening. First, gel with a bleaching agent is placed on one's teeth. It remains on the teeth for around
half an hour, when the dentist applies a laser to the tooth enamel to begin the actual whitening
process.
Whitening of this nature should be completed within
two hours. As soon as it is over, the teeth should appear noticeably whiter, by as much as eight
shades.
Side effects of professional whitening are brief and
mild. The most common one is gum sensitivity, which should pass within two days. Overall, the process is
quick, safe, and effective.
Teeth become stained for a variety of reasons,
relating to what people eat, drink, or otherwise place in their mouths. Among the top culprits are soft
drinks, cigarettes, coffee, and tea.
Stains and yellowing teeth can occur quickly, and make
people self-conscious about the appearance of their teeth. Whitening strips and dental whitening can both
help with this problem.
People who are on a tight budget might try whitening
strips. Those who can afford to pay more should consider professional whitening, due to its better and
longer-lasting results. The best way to determine which method is right for you is to ask your dentist for
advice.
